Roofing Day 2026: Why It Matters for Your Local Roofing Contractor
Capital City Roofing founder Brad Strawbridge joins NRCA's Roofing Day 2026 in Washington, D.C. to advocate for workforce solutions and affordable housing legislation — and here's why federal policy directly affects every Atlanta and Nashville homeowner's next roof replacement.
When you hire a roofing contractor, you probably think about shingles, timelines, warranties, and price. What you probably don't think about is what's happening in Washington, D.C. that directly affects the quality, cost, and availability of your next roof replacement.
That's about to change. On April 14-15, our founder Brad Strawbridge who is a member of the Roofing Alliance and NRCA will join hundreds of roofing professionals from across the country at NRCA's Roofing Day 2026, the industry's largest advocacy event on Capitol Hill. And the issues on the table this year affect every homeowner, property manager, and building owner we serve.
What Is Roofing Day?
Roofing Day is an annual event organized by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) that brings roofing professionals from all 50 states to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress and their staffs. Now in its ninth year, the event gives contractors a direct line to the lawmakers whose decisions shape the roofing industry.
This isn't a conference or a networking happy hour. It's the one day each year where roofing professionals put on their advocacy hats and go to work making sure Congress understands the real-world impact of federal policy on our trade.
The 2026 Priorities: Workforce and Housing
This year's Roofing Day focuses on two issues that hit close to home for every customer we serve in Atlanta, Nashville, and beyond.
The Workforce Challenge Is Real
The roofing industry is in the middle of a serious labor shortage. Across the country, contractors are struggling to find and retain skilled workers. In high-growth markets like Greater Atlanta and Nashville, this challenge is even more pronounced. More homes are being built. More roofs need replacing. But the labor pool isn't growing fast enough to keep up.
Federal immigration and workforce policy plays an outsized role here. The H-2B seasonal visa cap for the second half of fiscal year 2026 has already been reached, which tells you just how much demand exists for construction labor. NRCA is advocating for practical solutions, including the Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act and the Dignity Act, that would create structured, legal pathways for the skilled workers our industry needs.
What does that mean for you as a homeowner or property manager? When contractors can staff their crews reliably, your project stays on schedule. Your quality stays high. And pricing stays competitive because the market isn't artificially squeezed by labor scarcity.
Affordable Housing Needs Roofing Contractors
The second issue on the table is affordable housing. NRCA is pushing for tax credit legislation that would incentivize converting commercial buildings into livable residential spaces. If that legislation gains traction, it means more roofing work, more jobs, and more opportunity for communities that need affordable options.
For Capital City Roofing, this aligns directly with our values. We already donate to local food banks and school lunch programs through our Feeding the Future initiative with every roof we replace. Affordable housing policy is an extension of the same belief: this industry should be building communities up, not just putting roofs over heads.
Why Capital City Roofing Shows Up
At Capital City Roofing, we believe that running a great roofing company goes beyond installing roofs. It means being involved in the decisions that shape this industry's future.
Our founder Brad Strawbridge is an active member of both NRCA and RT3 (Roofing Technology Think Tank). His perspective is that the contractors who invest in advocacy, technology, and operational excellence are the ones who deliver the best outcomes for customers.
As Brad put it in a recent post on his personal blog: "Advocacy isn't separate from your business strategy. It IS your business strategy." You can read his full take on why he's attending Roofing Day and what it means for the industry here: Why I'm Heading to Washington for Roofing Day 2026
What This Means for Our Customers
Here's the bottom line for homeowners and property managers in Greater Atlanta, Nashville, and our expanding markets:
A stronger roofing industry means a better experience for you. When the workforce pipeline is healthy, your project gets staffed with skilled crews. When housing policy supports growth, the market stays competitive. When your contractor is plugged into the industry at the national level, you benefit from a company that's thinking beyond the next job and investing in the long-term health of the trade.
That's the kind of company we're building at Capital City Roofing. One of the fastest-growing roofing companies in Georgia, backed by GAF Master Elite certification (top 1% of contractors nationwide), CertainTeed ShingleMaster Premier credentials, and a licensing platform expanding into new markets like Charleston, Nashville, and Texas.
How You Can Support Roofing Industry Advocacy
You don't have to be a contractor to care about these issues. Here's how homeowners and property managers can help:
- Share this post to help spread awareness about the workforce and housing challenges facing your local roofing industry
- Ask your contractor if they're involved in industry advocacy (and give preference to those who are)
- Contact your representatives about the Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act and the Dignity Act if workforce availability and affordable housing matter to you
